Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026 — The Ultimate Guide to the World's Most Sacred Pilgrimage (Horse Year Special)
Some journeys change you forever. Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is one of them.
This isn't just a trekking holiday. It's a spiritual reset — a once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage to the abode of Lord Shiva, the sacred shores of Lake Mansarovar, and the legendary Kailash Parikrama at 5,630 metres above sea level. And 2026 makes it even more extraordinary. It's a Horse Year — a rare celestial cycle that comes once every 12 years, much like the Maha Kumbha. If you've ever planned to do this Yatra, this is the year to go
NFTT World Pvt. Ltd. (Nagfani Tours and Travels), based in Mumbai, has crafted two exclusive Deluxe packages for 2026 — one by road and one by helicopter. Let's walk you through everything you need to know.
Why 2026 Is So Special
2026 is a Horse Year in the Tibetan calendar. In Hindu and Buddhist traditions, a Horse Year Kailash Yatra holds extraordinary spiritual merit. Pilgrims believe that completing the Parikrama in a Horse Year multiplies blessings manifold. The last Horse Year was 2014. You do the math — this window won't come again until 2038.
Seats are genuinely limited. So if this journey has been on your heart, don't wait.
Two Ways to Reach Kailash — Choose Your Path
NFTT World offers two distinct routes for the Yatra. Both lead to the same sacred destination. The experience getting there, though, is quite different.
The By-Road Package — 13 Nights, 14 Days
Starting at ₹94,000 + $1,600 per person, this is the immersive pilgrim's choice. You fly into Kathmandu and spend the first two days exploring Nepal's spiritual heartland — Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, the Sleeping Vishnu at Jala Narayan, and Kathmandu Durbar Square.
Then the real adventure begins.
Day-by-Day Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu. Group briefing over dinner.
Day 2: Kathmandu sightseeing — temples, stupas, the Living Goddess Kumari.
Day 3: Drive to Syabrubeshi/Timure — 150 km through mountain landscapes.
Day 4: Cross the Nepal–China border at Rasuwagadhi Naka. Walk 1 km into Tibet for immigration. Reach Keyrung.
Day 5: Long drive (~300 km) to Saga / New Dongma — a critical acclimatisation stop.
Day 6: The emotional arrival — Lake Mansarovar. Parikrama of the lake by vehicle.
Day 7: Holy dip at dawn. Pooja, Havan, Meditation. Drive to Darchen via Rakshas Tal. Visit Ashtapad for Jain pilgrims (Rishabhanatha/Adinath — First Jain Tirthankara).
Days 8–10: The three-day Kailash Parikrama — the centrepiece of the entire Yatra.
Days 11–13: Return via Keyrung → Kathmandu. Optional excursion to Chandragiri Hills and Swayambhunath Stupa.
Day 14: Drop at Kathmandu Airport. Tour ends.
The Helicopter Package — 9 Nights, 10 Days
Starting at ₹1,67,000 + $1,400 per person, this is the faster, more comfortable route. You begin from Lucknow — easily accessible by train or flight from across India. From there, it's Nepalgunj by road, then a flight to Simikot, then a helicopter ride to Hilsa on the Nepal–Tibet border. It's quicker. But it's every bit as sacred.
Day-by-Day Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Lucknow. Drive to Nepalgunj (190 km / ~5 hrs). Group briefing at 7:30 PM.
Day 2: Fly Nepalgunj → Simikot (1 hour). Acclimatise.
Day 3: Helicopter from Simikot → Hilsa (~20 mins). Cross Nepal–Tibet border. Drive to Taklakot.
Day 4: Drive to Lake Mansarovar. Parikrama of the lake by vehicle.
Day 5: Holy dip, Pooja, Havan. Drive to Darchen via Rakshas Tal. Ashtapad Darshan included.
Days 6–8: Three-day Kailash Parikrama — Darchen → Deraphuk → Dolma La Pass → Zutulphuk → Chongdo.
Day 9: Helicopter back via Hilsa → Simikot → Nepalgunj. Overnight Nepalgunj.
Day 10: Drive to Lucknow. Tour ends with breakfast.
The Kailash Parikrama — What to Expect
Let's be honest with you. The Parikrama is tough. It's the most physically and spiritually demanding part of the entire Yatra. Here's what the three-day circuit looks like:
Dolma La Pass is the highest point. The air is thin. The walk is long. But pilgrims describe crossing it as one of the most profound moments of their lives. Those who are medically unfit for the Parikrama can stay back at Darchen — though at an additional cost.

Accommodation — Know Before You Go
This is a pilgrimage. Not a luxury resort trip. Hotel quality varies across the route.
At Deraphuk and Zutulphuk, you'll have basic dormitory-style rooms with outdoor toilets and no bathing facilities. No mineral water available either. Dinner there is typically khichdi or similar simple food. This is all part of the Yatra's spiritual character — go with the right mindset and it's absolutely fine.
Health, Fitness & Altitude
Mount Kailash sits at 6,638 metres. The Parikrama crosses Dolma La at 5,630 metres. You'll be spending days at altitudes that challenge even healthy, fit adults.
Here's what NFTT World recommends:
Consult your doctor before booking
Exercise regularly in the months leading up to your departure
Sleep well the day before you ascend
Walk slowly at altitude — your body needs time
Drink plenty of water. Avoid alcohol entirely
The age limit for the Yatra is 69 years. If your oxygen level drops below 65 at Darchen, the trip leader has the authority to stop you from proceeding with the Parikrama. This decision is for your safety — and it must be respected.
Booking Process & Documentation
Getting ready for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra involves a few steps. Start early. Permits take time.
