πŸ™ Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026 β€” The Once-in-12-Years Horse Year Pilgrimage You Can't Miss

Horse Year Special | By NFTT World (Nagfani Tours and Travels) | Limited Seats Available

Some journeys change your address. This one changes your soul. The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026 isn't just a trip β€” it's a sacred passage to the roof of the world, to a mountain that billions of Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bon followers consider the holiest place on Earth. And 2026 makes it even more extraordinary. It's the Horse Year (Ghoda Varsh) β€” a rare cosmic cycle that comes once every 12 years. Think of it as the Mahakumbh of the Himalayas. The spiritual merit of completing the Kailash Parikrama in a Horse Year is said to multiply manifold. Miss it now and you wait until 2038.

NFTT World Pvt. Ltd. (Nagfani Tours and Travels), based out of Mumbai, is offering two premium deluxe packages for 2026 β€” one by road and one by helicopter. Both are packed with everything you need for a safe, spiritually fulfilling, and well-organized journey.

Why 2026 Is Extraordinary

Every 12 years, the Tibetan calendar enters the Year of the Horse. Pilgrims across traditions believe that circumambulating Mount Kailash during this year is equivalent to doing the Parikrama 13 times in a regular year. Crowds will be high. Spots will run out fast.

This is your window. Not next year. Not "someday." Now.

Two Ways to Reach Kailash β€” Choose Your Path

Starting from β‚Ή94,000 + $1,600 per person

This route gives you the full experience. You cross the Himalayas overland, breathe in the landscape gradually, and let your body acclimatize naturally. It's the classic way β€” slow, soul-stirring, and unforgettable.

πŸ“ Day-by-Day Breakdown

Day 01 β€” Arrival in Kathmandu
You land at Kathmandu Airport where the NFTT World team greets you warmly. Check into Hotel Mandala Norling Lord Prime (or similar). The evening is free for rest. At 7:30 PM, your tour manager holds a pre-yatra briefing over dinner. Plan an afternoon arrival.

Day 02 β€” Kathmandu City Darshan
Wake up and spend the day exploring the spiritual heart of Nepal. You'll visit the sacred Pashupatinath Temple, the magnificent Boudhanath Stupa (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the ancient Jal Narayan (Sleeping Vishnu) Temple, and the fascinating Kathmandu Durbar Square where the Living Goddess Kumari resides. All meals included.

Day 03 β€” Kathmandu to Syabrubeshi / Timure
A scenic 150 km drive through mountain roads brings you to the Nepal–Tibet border town of Syabrubeshi/Timure. It takes approximately 7 hours. This day is for rest and gentle acclimatization.

Day 04 β€” Syabrubeshi to Keyrung (Tibet Entry)
This is where the yatra truly begins. You cross the Nepal–China border at Rasuwagadhi Naka, complete immigration formalities, and walk 1 km across the border to enter Tibet. You then drive to Keyrung for an overnight stay at a 2–3 star hotel. The air feels different on the other side.

Day 05 β€” Keyrung to Saga / New Dongma
A long drive of approximately 300 km (about 8 hours) takes you deeper into the Tibetan plateau toward Saga. Meals are provided. Settle in and rest β€” you're gaining altitude now.

Day 06 β€” Saga to Lake Mansarovar
The moment many pilgrims wait their entire lives for. You drive approximately 450 km (around 10 hours) to arrive at Lake Mansarovar β€” one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world, sitting at 4,590 meters. You complete a vehicle Parikrama of the lake. Accommodation here is basic with shared rooms (no attached bathrooms). Don't let that stop you β€” the view makes everything irrelevant.

Day 07 β€” Holy Dip at Mansarovar + Ashtapad Darshan
Rise before dawn. Take the sacred Holy Dip in Lake Mansarovar. Perform Pooja, Havan, and meditation as the sunrise paints the water gold. Then drive to Darchen via the mysterious Rakshas Tal (Devil's Lake). From Darchen, you take a bus to Ashtapad β€” the sacred site of the First Jain Tirthankara, Rishabhanatha (Adinath). This inclusion is rare and spiritually priceless.

Day 08 β€” Darchen to Deraphuk (1st Day Kailash Parikrama)
The Parikrama starts. Your driver takes you to Yamdwar, the gateway of the Parikrama. From here, you trek 12 km on foot (approximately 4 hours) to Deraphuk. The north face of Mount Kailash reveals itself in all its majesty here. Accommodation is basic β€” shared dormitory-style rooms with outdoor toilets. No running water. Dinner is khichdi. And honestly? It's perfect.

Day 09 β€” Deraphuk to Zutulphuk via Dolma La Pass (2nd Day Parikrama)
The hardest day. The most sacred day. You trek 22 km (approximately 10 hours) over the Dolma La Pass at 5,630 meters above sea level β€” the highest point of the Kailash Parikrama. This pass is dedicated to Goddess Dolma (Tara). Every step here is a prayer. Accommodation at Zutulphuk is similar to Deraphuk β€” basic but blessed.

Day 10 β€” Zutulphuk to Saga (3rd Day Parikrama)
You complete the Parikrama with an 8 km trek to Chongdo (about 3 hours). The circle is complete. You drive back to Saga/New Dongma for a real bed, a warm meal, and perhaps a quiet moment of reflection.

Day 11 β€” Saga to Keyrung
Drive back 300 km toward the Nepal border. Rest day. Your body deserves it.

Day 12 β€” Keyrung to Kathmandu
Clear border immigration at Rasuwagadhi and drive back to Kathmandu (approximately 7 hours). Back to civilization β€” with a completely changed perspective on what civilization even means.

Day 13 β€” Kathmandu Excursion
Visit Chandragiri Hills and the iconic Swayambhunath Stupa (the Monkey Temple). A lighter, joyful day to absorb everything you've experienced.

Day 14 β€” Departure
Breakfast. Transfer to Kathmandu Airport. The yatra ends. But something in you has permanently shifted.

By Helicopter β€” 9 Nights / 10 Days Complete Itinerary

Starting from β‚Ή1,67,000 + $1,400 per person

Short on time but big on devotion? The helicopter route cuts travel time dramatically and takes you directly into the high Himalayas. It starts from Lucknow β€” making it ideal for pilgrims from North India.

πŸ“ Day-by-Day Breakdown

Day 01 β€” Lucknow to Nepalgunj
Arrive at Lucknow Railway Station or Airport. The NFTT World team picks you up and drives approximately 190 km (5 hours) to Nepalgunj, Nepal. Group briefing at 7:30 PM. Dinner included. Early arrival in Lucknow is strongly recommended.

Day 02 β€” Nepalgunj to Simikot
An early morning flight (approximately 1 hour) takes you to Simikot β€” a remote mountain town in northwestern Nepal at around 2,900 meters. Weather permitting. The evening is free for acclimatization. All meals included.

Day 03 β€” Simikot to Taklakot via Hilsa
A short 20-minute helicopter ride takes you from Simikot to Hilsa β€” right on the Nepal–Tibet border. You complete immigration formalities and cross into Tibet. Then you drive approximately 20 km (30 minutes) to Taklakot for an overnight stay.

Day 04 β€” Taklakot to Lake Mansarovar
Drive approximately 90 km (2 hours) to reach the sacred Lake Mansarovar. Complete the lake Parikrama by vehicle. Accommodation is basic shared rooms. Pony/porter arrangements for Parikrama can be requested from the local guide in advance.

Day 05 β€” Mansarovar, Darchen + Ashtapad Darshan

Early morning Holy Dip in Lake Mansarovar. Pooja, Havan, meditation. Drive to Darchen via Rakshas Tal. Visit Ashtapad β€” sacred to the Jain community β€” for darshan of Rishabhanatha. Return to Darchen for overnight stay.

Day 06 β€” Darchen to Deraphuk (1st Day Parikrama)
Drive to Yamdwar. Begin the Kailash Parikrama with a 12 km trek to Deraphuk (approximately 4 hours). The north face darshan of Kailash at Deraphuk is one of the most photographed moments in pilgrimage history. Basic accommodation.

Day 07 β€” Deraphuk to Zutulphuk via Dolma La Pass (2nd Day Parikrama)
The legendary 22 km crossing over Dolma La Pass (5,630m). About 10 hours of walking. It's not easy. Nothing worth having ever is.

Day 08 β€” Zutulphuk to Taklakot (3rd Day Parikrama)
Trek 8 km to complete the Parikrama at Chongdo. Drive back to Taklakot. Parikrama complete. The feeling is indescribable.

Day 09 β€” Taklakot to Nepalgunj
Transfer to Hilsa Airport. Helicopter to Simikot (20 minutes), then flight to Nepalgunj (1 hour). Weather permitting. Overnight stay in Nepalgunj.

The Kailash Parikrama β€” What to Expect

The 52 km Kailash Parikrama is the spiritual centrepiece of the yatra. You complete it across three days:

  • Day 1: Yamdwar β†’ Deraphuk β€” 12 km, ~4 hours

  • Day 2: Deraphuk β†’ Zutulphuk via Dolma La Pass (5,630m) β€” 22 km, ~10 hours

  • Day 3: Zutulphuk β†’ Chongdo β€” 8 km, ~3 hours

The Dolma La Pass crossing on Day 2 is the most challenging stretch. It's at over 5,630 meters. Your lungs will feel it. Your legs will question your life choices. But when you stand at that pass, surrounded by prayer flags snapping in the Himalayan wind, you'll understand why millions of pilgrims have made this trek across centuries.

Important: Pilgrims with oxygen levels below 65 at Darchen may be stopped by the trip leader from proceeding to Parikrama. This is a safety measure. Respect it.

The Food β€” Pure, Sacred, Delicious

Here's something NFTT World does beautifully different. While most high-altitude tours serve whatever is available, NFTT World brings its own Marwadi Maharaj Chef to serve you Pure Veg and Jain meals throughout the journey β€” all three meals, every day.

On the Nepal side, meals are served at the hotel. On the Tibet side, their staff prepares the food. During transit, you get packed lunches. During Parikrama, carry your own packed lunch. The khichdi at Deraphuk and Zutulphuk? At 5,000+ meters elevation, it tastes like the best meal of your life.

Important Things You Must Know Before Booking

Don't skip this section. It can save you headaches:

  • Age limit: 69 years maximum

  • Booking advance: β‚Ή75,000 non-refundable (submit 40 days before yatra date)

  • Documents for permit: Scanned passport (first & last page) + visa photo (white background, dark clothes)

  • Documents for visa: Original passport needed at Delhi office 10 days before yatra

  • Nepal travel without passport: You can use Voter ID or Aadhaar β€” your passport goes to Delhi for the Tibet visa process

  • Chinese currency: Carry minimum 10,000 Chinese Yuan (CNY)

  • Currency exchange: Only USD and Euros can be exchanged for Yuan in Tibet

  • Don't book flights until you receive the permit β€” seriously, this is critical

  • Return ticket should be flexible β€” weather can delay the yatra

  • Tipping: β‚Ή3,000 or more per person for support staff is recommended

  • USD rate: Currently calculated at $1 = β‚Ή92.1 INR (final payment rate applies at time of full payment)

Health, Fitness & Altitude Sickness

Kailash Mansarovar takes you above 5,600 meters. Altitude sickness is real. It affects everyone differently. Here's what NFTT World advises:

  1. Mental preparation β€” Stay calm. Anxiety makes symptoms worse.

  2. Stay physically fit β€” Start training months in advance.

  3. Sleep well before high-altitude days.

  4. Walk slowly and pace yourself in the first few days.

  5. Hydrate constantly β€” avoid alcohol entirely.

The tour includes oxygen cylinders on the bus and a basic first aid kit. Still, consult your personal physician before booking. Carry your own medications if you have any ongoing health conditions.
